Longtime Woodburn resident, farmer and businessman, Patrick. C. McLaughlin, 89, died Saturday, Oct. 27, in a Salem hospital.

Born in Missoula, Mont., he worked as a traveling auditor for the Federal Land Bank before moving to a farm east of Woodburn in 1938, at which time he became an orchardist. Along with raising filberts, he maintained an accounting and tax office in Woodburn for many years.

He was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He served for many years as secretary to the Woodburn Chamber of Commerce, to which he was later given an honorary life membership. He also served as secretary and past of the Woodburn Rotary Club in which he had 36 years of perfect attendance. McLaughlin received the Paul Harris Award from Rotary International for his service.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys; son, Gordon, Marion; daughter, Marilyn Willeford, Silverton; two grandsons, John and Brian McLaughlin.

Prayer service was Monday, Oct. 29, in Cornwell Colonial Chapel, with funeral mass on Tuesday, Oct. 30, in St. Luke's Catholic Church. Interment was in Belle Passi Memorial Mausoleum.
