Dr. Steven G. Carin, Jr., age 67 of Guysville, died Friday evening, May 14, 2010 at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens.
Born Nov. 11, 1942 in Elyria, he was the son of the late Steven G. & Elizabeth Vanderson Carin.
A graduate of Elyria High School, Ohio Northern University, and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, he was a physician for over 35 years. He had been in private practice in Newcomerstown and has been at the Ohio University Osteopathic Medicine College and University Medical Associates, as a professor and physician since 1980. He has served as the Team Physician in the Ohio University Athletic Department for many years.
He was past president of the American Association of Physician Specialists and on the Board of Trustees of the Ohio University Foundation.
Steve was a devoted Christian, who loved the Lord with all his heart. He was an active member of Bethel Worship Center in Tuppers Plains. As a young man, he achieved the Boy Scout rank of Eagle Scout. He was an educator and philanthropist, dedicated to his family and loved to play the banjo. He also enjoyed his horses and dogs.
Steve is survived by his wife of 33 years, Kathy Wikoff Carin; daughter, Wendy Sayers of Guysville; a son & daughter in law, Michael & MegAnn Carin of Chicago, Ill.; and a sister, Barbara (James) Lawrence of Wexford, Pennsylvania
A memorial service will be announced in August. Arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio University Athletic Department, Convocation Center, Richland Ave., Athens, Ohio 45701.
