She was only 15 years old when she married Dan Chapman. Her father, William Bagley, gave them a house on his plantation in which to live. He also gave them a young black girl of the same age to live with them to be Mrs. Chapman's maid. Dan said that shortly after they married he came home for lunch and found his child bride and her black maid on the floor playing dolls. She had five children, 3 of which survived her. She died in childbirth.
