Television Writer, Producer. He was a creative force behind the popular TV programs "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" and "One Day at a Time." Raised on Staten Island, he served in the Pacific Theater while with the United States Army during World War II. Upon returning home, he enrolled at Sarah Lawrence College, becoming one of the first male students to attend there. Manings launched his Hollywood career during the 1950s, contributing scripts to the TV series "Leave it to Beaver," "McHale's Navy," "Petticoat Junction" and "Good Times," among others. He shared an Emmy Award in 1968 for his efforts on the hit series "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In," and along with his wife actress Whitney Blake, he co-created the series "One Day at a Time," serving as writer and executive producer. He was the stepfather of actress Meredith Baxter.
