REGULAR RANGER
Hudspeth Scouts
Pvt. Co. N
U.S. Gov. Scout
Hosea Joseph Alton Graham was born March 25, 1887 in Fairview (later named Winston), in Sierra County, New Mexico. Some say he was born in Mexico, near Bavispe, where his family had lived.
Hosea was of medium height, medium build, had light brown eyes and light brown hair. He was married to Mary E. Sheridan in about 1922. I did not find any children listed. Hosea was a cowboy.
He enlisted in the Texas Rangers as a REGULAR RANGER on April 24, 1918 thru June 1, 1918, as a private in Co. N, Hudspeth Scouts. Warrant of Authority is dated April 24, 1918. In June 1917 he was a U.S. Government Scout, living in Sierra Blanca, Hudspeth County, Texas.
In 1930 he was farming in El Paso County, near Fabens. His death day is listed as December 11, 1944, but I do not know where he died or what he died from. He was buried in the Fort Bayard National Cemetery, Fort Bayard, Grant County, New Mexico, near Silver City.
My father, also a Ranger, and Hosea were good friends and my father knew his family in Old Mexico. Hosea was always called Joe or "Jose", meaning Joe in Spanish. (by Nancy E. Brown)
