J. J. Burke, 71, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. J. King, 1134 South 14th Street, at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon following an illness of three months.

Mr. Burke, whose home was in Gouldbusk, Coleman County, suffered a heart attack three months ago, but had improved, and came here on Christmas day to visit his daughter. He was stricken a second time Tuesday night.

Born in Alabama, Mr. Burke came to Texas when he was 10 years old and had lived for the past 20 years at Gouldbusk, where he owned a farm.

Funeral services will be held at the Hamby Methodist Church at 3 o'clock this afternoon, with the Rev. V. B. Atteberry, pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene, Abilene, officiating. Burial will be at the Hamby cemetery.

Surviving Mr. Burke are his wife, two sons, A. D. Burke, Abilene, and O. D. Burke, Oklahoma City; and besides Mrs. King, three daughters, Mrs. H. O. Pope, Abilene; Mrs. W. M. Haynes, Coleman, and Miss Mattie Burke, Gouldbusk.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Laughter Undertaking Company.
