A special note of appreciation to Iva (Zajic) Lowry for the Zajic family history; Iva has a love of knowing about the history of her ancestors and was willing to share her research efforts. Iva did all her research by letter without the use of the computer or the internet. Iva shared obituaries, records from Bohemia, family group sheets and autobiographies. What a fabulous job she did! Thanks Iva.

A short biographical account from Alba Zajic Hulse Christiansen:
"My father, Frank Joseph Zajic, was born Dec 18, 1860 in Bustehard, Bohemia, came to the United States in 1883 with his mother, 3 sisters and 3 brothers. His father died and was buried in Bohemia. The mother's maiden name was Marie Janousek. She was born in Kysic, Bohemia. They made their home near Crete (Nebraska). The mother died may 10, 1917. She was born Mar 22 1836. The name of the ship on which they came over or the harbor where the ship landed is not known.

My mother's background: Matthew Wancura was born apr 15 1824 in Bohemia, died June 8, 1908. He married Barbara (Salla) Vanek who also was born in Bohemia in 1840 and died Jan 19 1901. He and his first wife were married in Bohemia and had several children. He was away from home working when his family came down with cholera. He wasn't allowed to go near them. His wife and all but two of his children died. They may have been girls. He brought the two children to America in 1866. He wasn't able to look after them and gave them to someone else to raise before he met Barbara who had been married and had a son (John Vanek). What happened to her husband isn't known. Barbara and Matthew were married in Cleveland, Ohio in 1867 and they went to Kansas in 1879. Their family consisted of a stepson, James, a half brother, John Vanek and the other children were Frank, Albert, Sophia, Mary, Fannie and Anna who was my mother."

Transcriber's note: For all future and past descendents, thank you Alba, we are carrying your legacy forward.)

Buried at Andrew Cemetery, Saline County, Nebraska.
