Myrtie E. Brogden, 76, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at her home following a lengthy illness.


She was born in Meigs County and was a member of Bethel Springs Baptist Church in McMinn County. She had been employed at Collins Manufacturing Company for 30 years and was also employed with Faye Swafford Originals for 11 years before her retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fate and Ethel Houser; one brother, John Houser; one sister, Sarah Mae Cartwright; one son, Johnny L. Brogden; and her husband of 60 years, Lester P. Brogden.


Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law: Bob and Tanda Brogden; one daughter-in-law, Dianne Brogden; three grandchildren, Tim Brogden, Shelia Withrow and Kristy Kelly and their spouses; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Sithia Bunch; two special nieces, Jessie Swafford and Vicky Thornburg; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.


Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Rev. Beecher White and the Rev. James Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with the release of white doves ceremony concluding the service.


Pallbearers will be Carl Withrow, Chuckie Withrow, Andrew Howard, Steve Bunch, Gerald Tatum and Burch Swafford. Honorary pallbearers will be Arnold Swafford and his son, the late Jimmy Swafford.


The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
