Enlisted in the Civil War (Union) on September 15, 1863 at Parkersburg, W VA. Served as a Private in Company "G" 15th Infantry Regiment and Company "G" 10th Infantry Regiment. Was Honorably Discharged on August 9, 1865 at Richmond, VA. Thomas was standing present at Aptmatics Court House when General Lee surrendered. General Grant was his General. Fulton was his Luetinent and Shaw was his Captain. Tom Butcher was his Major.

Married Sarah Jane PATTON-Cloer on February 21, 1869 at Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas.
