PETER SWENSON DIES AT HINCKLEY
Peter Swensen, 72, of Hinckley, died at his home Monday afternoon. He suffered a stroke following an illness of two years. He was born in Moroni, Utah, Nov. 28, 1870, a son of Lars and Annie Christensen Swensen. He was a manson by trade and built many of the brick homes in Sanpete and Sevier counties. He was a member of the LDS church and a member of one of Utah's early bands which played at the dedication of the Manti Temple. He served in the Church as President of the YMMIA in Sterling, as Superintendent of the Sunday School, Ward Chorister and as President of the Elder's Quorum. He was also a member of the School Board in Sanpete county. He married Slyvney Lowry Nov. 28, 1894 in the Manti Temple. They spent the early part of their married life in Sterling and then moved to Hinckley about seventeen years ago. Mr. Swensen was always a good citizen and neighbor. After he came to Hinckley he carried on his trade as a mason and has helped to building many homes here. He is survived by his widow, four daughters, Mrs. Genave Hansen and Mrs. Lila Denison of Sterling, Mrs. Edith Denison of Abraham and Mrs. Vera Bishop of Hinckley. Three sons, Randle P. Swensen and Easten J. Swensen of Hinckley and Lewis R. Swensen of McGill, Nev. Thirty-two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Hinckley at 10 a.m. Thursday. The body was taken to Sterling and a funeral will be held there at 6. Burial will be in the Sterling cemetery. Speakers at the funeral were Patriarch C.R. Woodbury and Stake President Harold R. Morris. Harold Hansen of Sterling also made a few remarks. Music was furnished by the ward choir, Erma Cropper, Garth Cahoon and Mr. and Mrs. Taylor of Fillmore. Bishop Ben Robison was in charge of the service.
