ROME, GA - Richard H. West, 87, who for 51 years was secretary of the Cherokee Lodge of Masons, died Wednesday morning at 8 after several months of declining health. He was also for 25 years the secretary of the Seventh district Masonic convention. During much of that time, the late Judge Max Meyerhardt was worshipful master of the Cherokee Lodge.
Mr. West was a native of Tennessee. He came to Rome in 1866 and engaged in the dry goods business with his brother, the late Mr. E. West. He retired in 1904. He is survived by two children, Mrs. Alfred Freeman, of New Orleans, and Roy West, of Rome. Funeral services were conducted Thursday morning from the First Presbyterian Church, of which he was an elder for many years.
