George Bloomfield, was born near Astoria, Illinois on Jan 2, 1872. He was the second son born to Levi and Hilpah (Younker) Bloomfield. Before George reached the age of two, the family relocated to Colorado, settling in Boulder county. In the spring of 1883 George along with other family members drove the family cattle across the mountains to the White River Valley where the family had staked a preemptive claim. George completed his schooling at the Coal Creek school and settled into a life of ranching. At the age of twenty-six George married a local girl, Myra M. Nichols and a year later a daughter was born to the couple. Unfortunately the marriage was short lived and George and Myra divorced four years later. George continued ranching until early in 1907 when he headed to Nevada and began working in the local ore mines, returning to Meeker, Colorado in 1917. In the fall of 1919 George was gathering cattle in the White river area, when his horse became agitated and before George could regain control, both horse and rider went over the cliff. George passed from his injuries the following morning, Sept 23, 1919. A service was held at the Bloomfield family home and George was laid to rest at Highland Cemetery. sd
