Mavis Aanenson was born on April 25, 1918, to Oliver and Olga (Berg) Aanenson on a farm in Rock County. She graduated from Luverne High School.
On April 23, 1939, she married John Porter. After their marriage they moved to Rock Rapids where they spent most of their married life.
She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, the Mayflower Guild and the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
Mrs. Porter is survived by a son, Steven (Ieva) Porter, Edina; a daughter, Julie (Al) Holland, Nipomo, Calif.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Curtis (Eva Lou) Aanenson, Minnetonka; a brother-in-law, Dallas Bowron, Luverne; and three sisters-in-law, Jackie Aanenson, Bethesda, Md., Dorothy Moen, Inwood, Iowa, and Alice Clark, Topeka, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Porter; two brothers, Vernon and Quentin Aanenson; and two sisters, Minerva Bowron and Elaine Kunkel.
Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
