He was born April 4,1923, in Petersham, the son of the late Clarence R. and Mabel (Harris) Amidon and was a lifelong Petersham resident.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Barbara (Wallquist) Amidon of Petersham; two sons, Marc Amidon and his wife, Barbara, of West Dennis and Bradford Amidon and his fiance, Rosemary DiPerri, of Winchendon; one daughter, Terry Matteson and her husband, Theodore, of Orange; four grandchildren, MaryLouise Delmonico of Skaneateles, N.Y., Philip Amidon of West Dennis, Leigha Matteson and Joshua Matteson both of Orange.
Two brothers, Roderick and Donald Amidon, predeceased him.
Before retirement Mr. Amidon worked at the Rodney Hunt Company and the Whipps Company as a mechanical engineer.
He was a member of the First Congregational Parish Unitarian Church in Petersham, where he was active in various church committees. He was also a member of the Petersham Brass Band for 68 years, a member of the Petersham School Committee, the Petersham Finance Committee and the Petersham Crime Watch.
He enjoyed farming, music, band, woodworking, lumbering and gardening.
Calling hours in the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main St., Athol, will be held on Friday, April 13, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be made to the Petersham Brass Band in care of Robert LaFond 276 West Rd., Petersham, MA 01366.
