Guy B. Campbell Dies
Guy B. "Slim" Campbell, 917 East South Ave., died Friday evening in St. Mary's Hospital. Mr. Campbell served with the Emporia Fire Department for 31 years and was assistant fire chief at the time of his retirement in 1952.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Judd H. Jones, pastor of the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Campbell was born March 16th, 1894, in Liberty, KS, the son of Daniel and Minnie Eby Campbell. He had been a resident of Emporia since 1913. On May 17th, 1920, he married Ilgra E. Stinson in Cottonwood Falls, and she died Feb. 11th, 1971.
He is survived by one son, Bill B. Campbell, Paola; one daughter, Mrs. John L. (Barbara) Bishop, 917 East South Ave.,; three sisters, Mrs. Jake (Gladys) Crabtree, Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Leonard (Vern) Shuck, Kansas City, and Beryl Tomcho, Costa Mesa, Calif.; six grandchildren, Kemper, Connie, Scott, and Douglas Campbell, Paola, Gary Bishop, 1333 N Woodlawn St., and Diantha Bishop, of the home; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Glen Campbell.
Mr. Campbell was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War I, and served in Company L. 137th Inf. Div.,. He also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
