Melva Vervene Warnick Harris Abel, age 90, of American Fork returned home on January 1, 1999.

Melva Harris Abel celebrated her 90th birthday the year of 1998. Melva was born August 29, 1908, the third child of Howard Benjamin and Maud Mae Gardner Warnick. She had two brothers, Howard and David, and two sisters, Ruth and Bernice. She met her eternal companion at a school dance, then on September 7, 1927, J. George Harris and Melva were married in the Salt Lake Temple. Living on their farm in Manila, they raised three sons and three daughters: Warren J. (Betty) Harris, Richfield; Lynn W. (Evelyn) Harris, Ogden; George Melvin (LuDean) Harris, Venice, Utah; Arlene Wilkins (deceased); Louise (Bob) Wilcox, Alpine; Karen (Lynn) Newman, Pleasant Grove. Melva had a great love for all of her children and she often talked about how proud she was of their accomplishments.

Melva and George were both employed by the Utah State Training School for over 15 years. They were happily married for 41 years until 1968 when her beloved husband passed away. Melva began working at the Salt Lake Temple where she met and married Frances Abel in 1971. They spent their five years together serving the Lord at the temple. Frances died in 1976.

Melva has enjoyed traveling and loved flowers, gardening, sewing, and reading. Melva has always enjoyed having her children and grandchildren over for a visit. She is a proud grandmother of 29 grandchildren, a great- grandmother of 72 great-grandchildren, and a great great-grandmother of nine. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 5, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the Olpin Family Mortuary Chapel, 500 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.

Melva attended the Manila Grade School and Pleasant Grove High School and seminary and graduated May 21, 1926.
