Harry R. Ake, 88, Williamsburg, died Sat., May 8 at Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona. He was born in Lakemont, to Homer N. & Beatrice (Clabaugh) Ake and was the gr. gr. gr. grandson of Jacob Ake, founder of Williamsburg. He married M. Arlene Sollenberger on Oct. 28, 1951, at Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Survived by wife; daughter, Denise E. Hainsey & husband, Raymond, Hollidaysburg; son, Allan, Augusta, GA; grandson, Jordan Hainsey; brothers: Nelson & wife, Kathryn, Boxford, MA; Walter, Altoona and Earl, Roswell, GA; and sister, Wilma Miller & husband, Glenn, Martinsburg. Mr. Ake was a 1941 graduate of Williamsburg High School and a 1948 graduate of Hammond Barber School, Johnstown. He was a U.S. Army, WWII veteran serving in the 3rd Army in Germany as a vehicle driver for Gen. Geo. Patton and also fought in 5 major battles, including the Battle of the Bulge. Harry retired in 1983 from Westvaco Corp., Tyrone, after 20 years of service and previously was employed at Westvaco Corp., Williamsburg, for 11 years. He also operated a barbershop at his residence in Williamsburg for 34 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Mr. Ake formerly played guitar for the local dance band, The Cavaliers from 1948-60. Bolger Funeral Home, Williamsburg. Interment with military rites, Williamsburg Lutheran Cemetery.
