John Thomas Partin and his wife Mary Jane (Turner) brought their family from Bell County, KY to Knox County in about 1891. They bought a large mountain farm in the Swan Lake area about 4 miles west of where Dr. Thomas Walker built the first house in Kentucky. John and Mary Jane farmed the land and raised their children there. They are buried in a little cemetery just over the hill from where they lived. They had three boys and three girls. John Thomas was the son of Shelton Clayton & Elizabeth (Evans) Partin from Bell Co., KY.
