A native of Flat Creek TN, Dr. Reagor served in the 37th Regiment, Tennessee Infantry CSA (7th Infantry) (1st East Tennessee Rifles) which was raised from the counties of Coffee, Bedford, Claiborne, Jefferson, Grainger, Hamilton, Washington, Bradley, Blount, and Sevier.

In Company A, he went in as a Sergeant and mustered out as Captain. It is likely Dr. Reagor ether used or learned his medical skills during that time of service.

On Feb. 12, 1874, After the death of his first wife Mary Berry, Dr. Reagor married Henrietta (Retie) McLaughton Gillman, (born 22 May 1846 died 16 Apr 1935). They located in Van Buren County and after Sam's death, she later married James H. Taylor Nov. 11, 1884

She is buried at Flintville, Lincoln Co., TN.
