Benjamin was born in Haverhill in 1747, the son of Mercy (Burbank) and Jeremiah Bailey. Benjamin was a wheelwright and served in the Revolutionary War. He married Mehetable Johnson of Plaistow, NH and they had 6 children together, before she passed away in 1793. His family lived in the home of his father (Jeremiah) on Scotland Hill, West Parish, in Haverhill.
