CLINTON - Charles R. Gideon, prominent resident of Clinton for many years, died in his home at 806 North Jackson avenue, Saturday morning, about 10 o'clock following a long illness of complications of diseases and of old age.

Charles R. Gideon was the son of George Gideon and Lillian [Lydia] Gideon and was born in Clinton, July 3, 1850. He was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Bell, of Hancock Iowa [Ohio] in Clinton in 1873. To this union five children were born. They are Mrs. Lester Robb, Edward Gideon, and Miss Phoebe Gideon of Clinton and Walter and Paul Gideon who reside in the south.

Beside his wife and children, Mr. Gideon is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Pryor [Prior] of Selsor [Excelsior], Minn., and Mrs. William Clagg of Sheldon, Iowa. There are also eighteen grandchildren.

He was a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge of Clinton and of St. Paul's Universalist Church. He was clerk in that church for twenty years.

The funeral service will be conducted in the family home Tuesday afternoon an 2:30 o'clock. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery.
