At the end of the War, on July 16, 1677, William married again (2nd) to Hannah (Merriam) Axtell, the widow of Henry Axtell, who was killed by Indians on the Marlborough-Sudbury road in April, 1676.
She had 5 children born of her first marriage: Samuel, Hannah, Mary, Thomas, and Daniel.

To this marriage was born Eleazer on April 11, 1678, named after the son of Deacon Ward slain during King Philip's War.
