Richard Lee "Smoothie" Acker, 53, of Imler passed away suddenly Thursday at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus.
He was born in Imler, son of the late Charles and Lillian (Welsh) Acker. He married Zoeann Hoover in July 1998 at the Upper Claar Church of the Brethren in Claysburg.
Surviving are his wife; a stepson, Tim Peuckert, at home; two brothers: Eugene Acker and companion, Lulubelle Mowry, of Osterburg and Dennis Acker and companion, Patricia Corle, of Martinsburg; a sister, Annajean Finnegan and husband, Charles, of Imler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Acker, and a sister, Bernice Lantz*.
Mr. Acker was a 1975 graduate of Claysburg-Kimmel High School.
He retired in 1995 from Champion Homes. He was baptized at the Upper Claar Church of the Brethren. He was a life member of the NRA and a member of the Bedford Moose Lodge No. 480.
Richard enjoyed NASCAR, hunting, fishing and working around his home. He was a regular blood donor to the American Red Cross and was an organ donor.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2010, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at the Miller Funeral Home, East Freedom. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Charles Miller officiating.
Interment will be at Carson Valley Cemetery.
