Maggie Dant Mattingly, 84, of Loretto, died at 2:26 a.m. June 2 [1981] at Spring View Hospital. Mrs. Mattingly was a native of St. Francis. She was the daughter of the late John (James) Thomas & Mary Belle Cross Mattingly. Survivors include: five sons, Alvey Dant of England; George Dant of Indianapolis, IN; J.N. Dant of West Moreland, TN; Thomas S. Dant of Cicero, IN; and Gerald B. Mattingly of Indianapolis, IN; one daughter, Mrs. Ruby Newton of St. Francis; three sisters, Mrs. Katie Miles of Loretto; Mrs. Emma Belle Greenwell of St. Francis; and Mrs. Bertha Nalley of Louisville; one brother, Edward Mattingly of Bardstown; 43 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. June 4 at St. Francis of Assisi Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Nick Dant officiated. He was assisted by Rev. Marvin C. Rolfes. Six of her grandsons served as pallbearers. They were Jerry, Gary, Tim, Fred, Harold & Greg Dant. Prayer services were at 7:30 p.m. June 3 at the Mattingly Funeral Home. Mattingly Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
