Lucas Thurber Brockbank Jr. grew up being called Thurber. After moving to the east, however, he was forever known as "Brock", so much so that some in later life never knew his given name.

After graduation from the University of Nevada in 1930 and marriage, he and Tosca moved to Schenectady, New York where he went to work for General Electric, and became a licensed professional engineer.

At the outbreak of WWII he entered the Navy and came out as a Lieutenant Commander. After the war he worked for Kalteux Brothers; thereafter he established his own heating and air conditioning company in 1960. In 1982 he retired and thereafter worked as an engineering consultant for insurance companies, principally on cases where heating units were involved in fires.

Brock and Tosca raised two boys: Stephen Warner Brockbank and Michael Thurber Brockbank.
