The following is his obituary published in the Saguache "Crescent," January 5, 1899, p. 5, col. 3:

"DIED.

At his home in Russell Springs precinct on Friday, December 30, 1898, Christopher W. Bruns, aged 60 years, from quick consumption.

Mr. Bruns was born in Germany but came to this country when only 5 years old, his parents settling in Wisconsin, in which state he grew to manhood. He lived for some years in Iowa and then moved to Kansas, and two years ago he came to this county. He leaves a wife and ten children to mourn his death. The burial took placed on Saturday in the cemetery at this place. Mr. Bruns was highly esteemed by those who knew him and his sudden death came as a painful surprise to the community."

According to the 1900 Census, his widow Elizabeth and eight of the ten children were living at Crestone, Saguache County, Colorado. The eight children's names were James L (Leslie), Hannah, John, Peter, Lewis, Cora, Hattie (Harriet), and Franklin. In the same 1900 Census of Lincoln Township, Decatur County, Kansas, the other two are found. Maybell (listed as Mabel), one of the younger children, was living with her oldest sibling, Fred R. Bruns, and his wife Louise.
