Died in Maryland, buried near father Will Shorey Coody,* Sr, delegate from Cherokee Nation, as head of Cherokee Senate, etc. Also inscribed here is Charlotte Coody, d. March 12, 1849, on the same marker. Dau. of Will Shorey & Susan Hensley. (Cherokee) Coody,Sr.∼Henrietta Jane Coodey, from the Cherokee Nation, was the daughter of William Shorey Coodey and Susan Hensley. William Shorey Coodey was the President of the Cherokee Senate, making many trips to Washington D.C. on their behalf. Henrietta was educated at the Patapsco Female Institute in Ellicotts Mills (now Ellicott City), MD. under principal Almira H.L. Phelps. A talented musician, she accepted a music teaching position at her alma mater after graduation. Upon learning that her father was ill, she went to visit him in Washington, D.C. and at this time contracted a malignant fever. She died in Ellicotts Mills on January 28, 1849.
