She married Marshall Elsberry Osborne on December 6, 1884 in Garrard County. He was the son of Alfred & Charity Stamper Osborne and the widower of Isabella Shearer Osborne. Their family moved to Decatur, Indiana in 1899, but returned to Garrard County by 1900. They moved to Lexington in 1905, but were back in Garrard County, by 1910, and settled there. As a young girl, Lizzie was baptized at the Mt. Hebron Baptist Church and was an active member of its congregation, throughout her life.
My grandfather was her youngest child and was very close to her. As newlyweds, my grandparents lived with his parents. Grandma said that Lizzie kept a spotless house and was a wonderful cook.
Mrs. Osborne was also proud of her deep Garrard County roots. When my grandfather and his brother relocated to Richmond, Indiana they invited her to move with them. She replied, "I already live in the best place in the world, why would I want to go anywhere else?". She lived another twenty-six years after she was widowed, surrounded by family and cared for by her beloved daughter, Effie.
•Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Mt. Hebron Church for Mrs. Lizzie Osborne, 88, who died Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Effie Preston, after a long illness.
The Rev. I.W. Manly, Georgetown minister, officiated, with the Rev. Albert Smith, Bryantsville pastor, and the Rev. L. Ayers assisting. Pallbearers were grandsons; Wilbert, Claude and Eugene Preston, Holton and Weldon Osborne and Ernest Gordon Preston.
Other survivors, in addition to the daughter, are three sons, Malcolm Osborne, Lancaster, and Herman and Coleman Osborne, Richmond, Ind.
