Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Parkerson Avenue Baptist Church for Howard Newman, 89, who died July 8, 2009 in Crowley.

Rev. Chris Campo, pastor of Parkerson Avenue Baptist Church will be officiating for the services. The family is requesting visiting hours to be held Friday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to the time of service. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Howard was a member of the U. S. National Guard, and the Army where he served in World War II as a Lieutenant. He worked for Production Credit Association for 40 years as a vice-president. Mr. Newman coached organized recreation baseball for 15 years. He was a member and a past-president of the Crowley Kiwanis Club, and was very active in the Senior Olympics. The activity he was most proud of was being a member of Parkerson Avenue Baptist Church where served as treasurer, deacon, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday School.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eva D. Newman of Crowley; three sons, Shannon Newman and his wife Phyllis of New Iberia, Jim Newman and his wife Debbie of Owensboro, KY, and Richard Newman and his wife Brenda of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Lashon Maggio, Amber Newman, Scott Newman, Brandon Newman, Blake Newman, Jana Newman, and Kyle Newman; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Meredith Maggio; and two sisters, Bernice Touchet of Jennings, and Mildred Crenshaw of Lake Charles.

Mr. Newman is preceded in death by his parents, Ophie and Rose Istre Newman; one sister, Stella Nunez, and one brother, Allen Newman.
