John H. Wilson, son of the late Whit H. and Mrs. M. F. Wilson, was born in Madison County, Tennessee, September 29, 1861 and came to Henderson County with his parents at the age of seven years.
In his younger days there was limited opportunity to secure an education, but in spite of his handicap, he became able to transact ordinary business and to read to a considerable extent, as I came to know by many conversations with him.
He was most happily married December 25, 1888 to Miss Lizzie, daughter of the late John W. Cawthon, who bore him three sons and two daughters, all of whom survive, except John Whit who died fifteen years ago at the age of nearly eight yearts.
The surviving children were all with their father at the late, namely, Carmen (Mrs. James Diamond of Jackson), Guy Wilson of Birmingham, Alabama, Bonnie Lee (Mrs. John Belew), and Louis Wilson, the younger son living at the home near Huron. The surviving brothers and sisters are Hugh Wilson of this county, Will Wilson of Monette, Arkansas, Mrs. S.D. McAdams (Florence) of this county, and Mrs. E.E. Milam (Dora) of Beech Bluff, Madison County, Tennessee.
About fifteen years ago Mr. Wilson professed religion and united with the Southern Methodist Church.
The funeral services were held at Chapel Hill last Monday at 11 o'clock, Rev. C. C. Newbill officiating. The touching talk made by Bro. Newbill under the spreading oaks of the churchyard was heard by a large crown of relatives and friends.
