Wylie (or Wiley) George Dawson was born in Greene County, Tennessee to James and Jane Dawson. He joined Lucinda and Sally from this marriage which was both James' and Jane's (maiden name unknown) second marriage. James first marriage, to Jane Citchen, produced half-siblings Ailsaba, Edmond, David, John, Margaret, James and Esther. Children from second wife Jane's first marriage to (?) Shoemaker produced half-siblings Nancy and Aswell. On October 25, 1820, James applied for a pension as a soldier in the Revolutionary War. He stated that son Wylie was 6 months old at that time.
James Dawson died on June 30, 1838 in Anderson County, Tennessee when Wylie was 18 years of age. On January 28, 1843, Wylie Dawson married Nancy Conrad in Meade, Kentucky.
By the 1850 census taken on August 1st, Wylie and Nancy lived in New Albany, Floyd, Indiana. Wylie's occupation is listed as "None." The couple had three children listed in the census: Phillissa, age 6; Malinda, age 3; and Isaac, age 1 month.
By the 1860 census taken on August 13th, Wylie and Nancy lived in Northwest Township, Orange, Indiana. No occupation is listed. At this date the couple had six children: Phillissa, age 16; Malinda, age 14; Isaac, age 11; James, age 8; Jincy, age 5; and William, age 3. A daughter Margaret is named on the Civil War Widow's pension.
At his death, Wiley G. Dawson was a Private in Company "B" of the 24th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He had joined in Vincennes, Indiana on July 31,1861. Wylie G Dawson is buried in Section "O" grave 3760 at Vicksburg National
Memorial Park, Mississippi.
