"W. H. Honiss Dies, Lawyer And Inventor - Former Assistant Secretary of Hartford Empire Passes at Crescent Beach Summer House. William H. Honiss, 82, former assistant secretary of the Hartford Empire Company, died early Friday morning at his summer home at Crescent Beach in Niantic. An inventor, mechanical engineer and patent attorney, he lived at 141 Steele Road, West Hartford . . . Born June 24, 1858 in East Berlin, son of the late William and Mary Honiss, he came to Hartford when about 21 years old and worked as an apprentice in the Pratt and Whitney Manufacturing Company . . . He leaves a son, William T. Honiss; a daughter, Mrs. Roger H. Dickinson, both of West Hartford; a brother, Winfield D. Honiss of Rocky Hill and four grandchildren. The funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p. m. at the Unitarian Meeting House on Pearl Street. Rev. Charles M. Graves will officiate." [The Hartford Courant (Hartford, CT), Aug. 24, 1940]
