-------------------------

Born in New Jersey, he went to Warren Co., OH. It is assumed his first wife died and then he married a second time in Warren Co., OH. There are many families in Warren Co., OH, who bear the Mulford surname, but currently no record has been located that connects Jacob with any of those families. Jacob came to Randolph Co., IN., in the 1840's. He was a farmer. There is no record of his surviving children after the 1850 Census, with the exception of Margaret Ann. Of the two sons by his first wife, Henry is not listed in the 1850 Census, while John is listed with the family as age 18. The daughter, Rhoda, is listed as age 9. She does not appear in the 1860 Census. No further record of her which may indicate she had died or was married outside the County. Margaret Ann married Tarver Seagrave, and remained in Randolph Co., IN., till her death, producing several offspring and had many descendants, some of whom still live in the County.

Jacob F. Mulford owned land northeast of Modoc. His son-in-law, Tarver Seagrave owned the land on the north side of highway 36 across from the present day Union School. Jacob's land was directly in back of Tarver's land. Jacob's land was inherited by his daughter, Margaret Seagrave, and thus the two properties were joined together. The properties were eventually inherited by grandson, Calvin Seagrave, and then great-grand-daughter, Mary Marguerite (Seagrave) Conyers. The property was eventually sold.

The middle name of Jacob appears on one page of the family Bible. It is on the very edge of the page where people have handled the page & cannot be clearly read. It seems to be Frances, which makes sense as a grandson also had this middle name.

The Mulford surname is not known to exist in Randolph County, IN, today. Descendants continued within the County under the Seagrave and Conyers surnames. Currently the only descendants living in the County bear the Jones surname.
