Death of Mr. Elijah Blackshear
After a long and painful period of intense suffering with cancer in the face, Mr. Elijah F. Blackshear died on Saturday morning at 4 o'clock, in the 58th year of his age. He was the youngest son of Gen. David Blackshear who, in his day, was one of the foremost men of Georgia. Thus has passed away one of Laurens county's most distinguished citizens and one of the purest and noblest men that ever lived.
On account of his long continued illness and the well known nature of the fell disease which has been so long preying upon his vitals, the news of his death comes not wholly unlooked for. And yet, though the sad tidings were expected, it spreads a pall of sorrow over the community to know that Mr. Elijah Blackshear is no more. No man ever enjoyed more of the love and esteem and confidence of all who knew him, no man ever lived a purer and more exemplary life, none ever enjoyed a grander triumph in the hour and aricle of death. Sustained by an unaltering trust in the religion which he had professed during life, he passed through the valley of the shadow of death without fear or trouble. He leaves a wife, several sons and daughters and a wide circle of relatives and friends to mourn his death.
