John was the son of John Anunti Sr (b in Finland 1883)and Hilda Anunti who was born in Finland in 1887. He had two sisters Evelyn (b 1919) and Norma Anunti (b 1922). He attended Duluth Central High School. He was the husband of Kathleen A Anunti
John served in the Navy from May 22, 1943 - March 23, 1946 and was a survivor of the tragic loss of the USS Inidanapolis.
