This is an old Potter's Field, originally owned by the Almshouse, City Home Hospital at 1400 State St. Springfield, MA. Name changed to Bay Path Cemetery in 1936, after a clean up. Only terracotta numbered markers and no records for most of the people buried. Lots of infants, unknowns, poor and vagrants picked up off the rails.
There are names from #550 to 670, only written in transcripts at the Conn. Valley Historical Museum, 220 State St. Springfield, MA.
I did make copies of those pages and have tried to find markers.
Name on cover and index:
"Records Bay Path Cemetery, Springfield, Mass." Index # A17404 757131.

I have uncovered 205 markers.
The cemetery is now inside Blunt Park, owned by the City of Springfield. In 1873, there was no park, only a farm on which the Almshouse stood. Now stands Olympus Speciality Hospital(old Municipal Hospital)[new name 4/2001, Parkview Specialty Hospital], and the road leading to the cemetery is Blunt Park Rd. off Roosevelt Ave. Behind the old Trade High School(Roger L. Putnam Vocational).

They did erect a sign in Oct.2000, as "Bay Path Cemetery".
