He fished in the summers to the Alaska waters, and also in the Columbia River. He remained a bachelor all his life. He was
tall, very handsome and charismatic. In 1939 he was able to purchase
a small lot of land on an inlet called Wellcome Slough in the interior of Puget Island, Washington(right across and up from Astoria) His home was on the water, a tiny place. His boat lived next to it. A shop was built on the tiny 1/4 acre.
died in July 1942, was buried in Clatsop County near his brother Albert Halsan.
