Lyle was born on a farm in Roosevelt twp., near Pine Center, MN, to Bert & Bertha (Austin) Cooley. He was the first of his brothers to enlist in the Army during WWII. Lyle enlisted on the 14th of August in 1942. He received on honorable discharge on the 2nd of Feb. in 1946.

After Lyle's discharge, he came home to visit friends and family. He later moved to Lawndale, CA, where he was a press operator for California Rubber Road Prod. Lyle passed away in Los Angeles, CA and was brought back to Minnesota for burial.

He was preceeded in death by his parents and two brothers, Wilbur & Loren.
