Edward James Alvey of Owensboro died May 15, 2009, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born June 27, 1933, in Daviess County to the late William Archie Alvey and Mary R. Hulsey Alvey. He retired from Simms Painting and Painters Union Local 156 and was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping and refinishing furniture. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty J. Newcom Alvey; his sons, Mike and wife Kathy Alvey of Owensboro, Billy Alvey of Kansas and Eddy and wife Vicki Alvey of Owensboro; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Richard Meredith officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family wishes that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Ohio Valley Inc., 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301-9979.
