To Have a Heart by Mary Catozzi

The time will come when my heart
Can no longer stand the strain
Of giving life to a body
Broken and wracked with pain.

But I shall have no complaints
My heart will have done it's share
So many times it urged me on
When I was weary with care.

And always my heart was alive
Throbbing with some deep emotion;
Happiness, sadness, sympathy, love,
Kindness, understanding and devotion.

So if my years should not be too many
And I play no important part,
I shall always be grateful to Him
Who taught me "to have a heart".

Note: I do not know when my mother wrote this poem; but suspect it was sometime after the cancer diagnosis. MRM.

Those we love remain with us,
for love itself lives on,
And cherished memories never fade
because a loved one's gone.
Those we love can never be
more than a thought apart,
For as long as there is memory,
they'll live on in the heart.

God made a wonderful Mother,
A Mother who never grew old.
He gave her a smile of sunshine and freckles too,
And molded a heart into gold.
He made her so like an angel
As anyone ever could be.
God made a wonderful Mother
Then gave that Mother to me.
Eternal rest give unto her, O, Lord
and let perpetual light shine upon her.
Msy she rest in peace.

If ever there is a tomorrow when we are not together, there is something you must remember; you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart, I'll always be with you. By A. A. Milne
