In the Atkins Chronical on July 3, 1925 there is a IN MEMORY "Worshipful Master, Wardens and Brethern, Atkins Lodge No. 172, F. and A.M., We your committee desire to submit the following in memory of our brother, Ransom S. Daily. Ransom S. Daily, was born March 18th 1843 in Blunt county Alabama and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs A Beeson in Atkins, Arkansas, May 13th , 1925 funeral and burial services were held in St. Joe Cemetery on May 14th, 1925. Religious services being conducted by Rev. R.M. Johnson assisted by Rev. G.C. Johnson. Burial services in charge of the Masonic Fraternity. Mr. Daily was married to Miss Sarah Thorn Dec 24th 1864 and at the time of her husbands death was 78 years old, they having lived together 61 years. Eleven children were born to them, six are now living: W.P. Daily of Floydada Texas, Mrs Etta Torbet and T.C. Daily, Fort Smith, Mrs. Elzora Eaks, Russellville and Mrs A. Beeson, Mrs Allie Reel Atkins. By occupation Mr. Daily was a farmer. He came to Arkansas in 1879 and lived in Pope County more than forty years, lived in Yell county about five years coming to the home of his daughter in Atkins in December 1924 and remaining there until his death. Mr Daily united with the Missionary Baptist Church at the age of 18 and for more than forty years was a local minister in that church. He was made a Mason in Alabama and for many years was a member of the Dover Lodge and at the time of his death was a member of Atkins Lodge 172. September 12th 1861 he volunteered as a soldier in the Confederate Army and served during the war being wounded in the Battle of Pulaski, Tenn. His war service began under Capt Rody who was afterward promoted to the rank of Brigadere General and commanded the 4th Ala Brigade, Calvary. Mr Daily was part of the time while in service under the command of Gen Bedford Forest. During his war career he was in the following battles, Shiloh. 2 days, Farmington 1 day, Murfreesboro 1 day, Chattanooga 1 day, Chickmauga 2 days, Missionary Ridge 1 day, Lookout Mt 1 day, Marietta 1 day, Calhound 1 day, Rome 1 day, Seige of atlanta 30 days, Cross Roads 1 day Corinth 1 day, Pulaski 1 day. Mr Daily was an honest,upright man and Mason ever true to his convictions, his church, his home, and family, his friends and country. He was laid to rest with approptiate services of the Church and of the Masonic Fraternity to await the earned reward of a well spent life in the morn of the Judgement Day.
