From Monument Inscriptions Prior to 1900; Cemeteries in Clermont County, Ohio: David Morris in 1814 published the Western American at Williamsburg Ohio, and in 1826 he bought the Western Patriot at Batavia Ohio. He merged the Western Patriot into the Spirit of the Times, where afterwards he was on the Chronicle of the Times.

From the Clermont County Sun: Died, in Batavia, Saturday March 4, Mr. David Morris in the 55th year of his age. Born in Washington Co. Pa. January 13, 1789, and when but two months old was brought by his parents who emigrated to Ohio, and settled at Columbia, near the confluence of the Little Miami and Ohio Rivers. In 1801 they removed to Clermont Co. About the year 1813 he published a paper in Williamsburg in this Co. called "The Western American" and subsequently conducted a paper in this place for about eight years entitled "The Spirit of the Times", which afterwards was changed to the "Chronicle of the Times." He leaves behind a wife and large family of children.
