"A. E. Squires Found Dead in His Car. A heart attack Friday morning caused the death of Alvin E. Squires, 58, treasurer of A. Squires & Company, West Hartford grocers. Mr. Squires was found dead shortly after 7 a.m. in his car which was parked next to Engine Company 11 at 7 Sisson Avenue. Fireman saw his feet on the running board and upon investigation found him slumped back on the seat of his car. It is believed that he was trying to get out of the automobile when he was stricken. Medical Examiner Henry N. Costello said death was caused by a heart attack. Born in Hartford, a son of the late Elisha B. and Hattie (Tolhurst), Mr. Squires was educated in the schools here . . . Mr. Squires' wife, the former Maude Tufts of Norwich, died in 1933. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Wesley J. Smith; a son, Elliott R. Squires; a sister Lulu M. Squires, all of Hartford; and a brother, Arthur P. Squires, president of the grocery company." (The Hartford Courant, Jan. 2, 1937)
