Respected Citizen Passes Away

John Scott Dies in Los Angeles Feb 11 Body Brought Here for Burial

Word was received here last week of the death in Los Angeles last Wednesday of John Scott, a well known citizen of Wessington Springs, who spends his winters in California.
The body arrived here last evening and the funeral will be conducted today (Thursday) by Rev. I.M. Hargett. Internment will be in the Prospect Cemetery.
John Scott was born in Illinois, Oct 1, 1851 and died in Los Angeles, Calif, February 11, 1914.
He moved with his parents when a small boy to Grant Co, Wis, where he grew to manhood.
He married Emogene Lee Jan 17, '78. To this union 4 children were born, Ernest, Ervin, Gordon, and Mrs. Claude Bayne all residing in Jerald County.
Besides his children, he has two sisters living in Wisconsin, and a brother living in Portland, Ore. remaining to mourn the loss of their father and brother.
The first six years of Mr. Scott's married life were spent in Wisconsin. Then he moved to Fairbault County, Minn, with his family, where he resided for eighteen years. Twelve years ago he with his family moved to Jerauld County, South Dakota.
Seven years ago Mrs. Scott died and since that time Mr. Scott has been a resident of Wessington Springs S.D. and spending his winters in Los Angeles, California.

Obituary

This afternoon occurred the funeral services for John Scott, whose remains arrived from California last night. The services conducted by Rev. Hargett and Rev. Smith, after which the masons took charge. Burial was made in Prospect Hill where Mrs. Scott was buried a few years ago.
John Scott was born Oct 1, 1851, in Illinois and died in Los Angeles, California on February 10. He moved with his parents as a small boy to Grant County, Wisconsin when he grew into manhood. January 17, 1878 he married Emogene Lee. To this union four children were born, Ernest, Ervin, Gordon and Mrs. Claude Bayne, all residents of Jerauld County, South Dakota. Besides his children are two sisters living in Wisconsin and one brother living in Portland, Oregon, remaining to mourn the loss of their father and brother.
