It was reported by his granddaughter, Frances Zylpha (Annis) Cashman that Martha Brown was "a refined Christian woman and very handsome in old age". Mrs. Cashman also wrote that Jacob was a veteran of the War of 1812. He removed from Lyme, New Hampshire circa 1823 and settled at Parishville, NY. "He was a very quiet man, said but little, and had no bad habits, used neither coffee, whiskey or tobacco and was a Christian man." Jacob was a member of the Baptist Church, and is buried at Parishville cemetery.
