Ruth L. Laun-Lauson, 86, of Kiel, died Wednesday morning at Calumet Homestead Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident for the past five years.
She is the former Ruth Louise Eckart born Jan. 7, 1917, in Milwaukee, daughter of the late Philip and Josephine Hubenthal Eckart. She was a graduate of Washington High School in Milwaukee and worked at Pohlman Studio in Milwaukee as a secretary and model.
On May 26, 1942, Ruth married John H. Laun in Milwaukee. For many years she was the secretary of AA Laun Furniture Company and the AA Laun Lumber Co. John H. Laun preceded her in death on May 5, 1976. In 1977 Ruth married Dr. Henry Lauson. The couple resided in Wingdale, N.Y., until moving back to Kiel in 1985. Henry Lauson preceded Ruth in death on Feb. 21, 2000.
Ruth was very active in many community events including the Kiel Historical Society, VFW Women's Auxiliary, volunteer work at Road America, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. In her spare time Ruth was very artistic. She enjoyed doing glasswork and stained glass, painting, home décor and design, fashion and design. She enjoyed cooking and was an avid reader, even taking classes at Vassar College while in N.Y. Ruth was also an AFS mother for two. Mostly she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and traveled extensively with family and friends.
Survivors include two sons, Jonathan (Paula) Laun of Kohler, and William (Kitty) Laun of Kiel; and one daughter, Betsy (Rafic) Maalouf of Washington, DC. She is further survived by 10 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one sister, Virginia Schmidt of Scottsdale, Ariz. She was preceded in death by three infant sons, Mark Donald, Tjark and Daniel.
A funeral service will be held on Monday at the Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, Kiel, with the Rev. Robert Sizemore officiating. Burial will be in the Kiel City Cemetery.
