Death of Susan Jones
Mrs. Susan Jones passed peacefully away Saturday night, January 18, 1890, at 12 o'clock, after a long and painful illness which she had borne for years with Christian fortitude. She was the wife of William Jones of this city, who was one of the early settlers of this county. Deceased was sixty-three years old, and left her native home in Ireland for New York in 1850, where she remained until 1855, when she came to California and settled near Bloomfield. April 30, 1856, they were married and resided on their farm in Big Valley until a few years ago when they removed to this city. They have raised a family of six children, three sons and daughters, all now of age. The deceased was a faithful and affectionate wife and mother, a kind neighbor, and had the respect and love of a large circle of acquaintances. The funeral took place from her late residence in this city at 9 o'clock last Monday morning, the remains being interred in the Bloomfield cemetery on a beautiful and sunshiny spot in sight of her old home, where she lived and reared her children, and one that had been selected by herself several years since. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Crawford. The procession formed in this city was joined all along the route by old friends, and a large number witnessed the last sad rites. The bereaved husband and family have the sympathy of the community in which they formerly lived, beside many acquaintances in this city. The entire life of this patient little wife and mother is a loving lesson to her children and many, many friends.
