L. C. Cannon was the ninth child of David and Permilia Spears Cannon. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the military service of the Confederate Army, at Abbeville, AL, and served the last three years of the war in Company E., Sixth AL Calvary. He was discharged in May of 1865. On December 16, 1866 he married Sarah Ann (Ann) Bailey Farmer. Ann was born in Alabama in 1842 to Rubin Ezekiel and Alcey Bailey. Ann was first married on January 10, 1861 to Mills Farmer (b. ca. 1837 d. 10.14.1863). They had one child, Josephine Viola (Josie). Mills was killed in the Civil War leaving Ann a young widow with a small child.
L.C. and Ann Cannon came to TX in 1880. He came by boat down the coast of Beaumont and inland to Houston County. Ann, her daughter Josie and Josie's husband, Jerome Curry, came by train. Ann's children by L.C. came along also. (Josie and Jerome Curry were married in AL.) L.C. bought land and built a farmhouse near Kennard in Houston County where he and Ann farmed and raised a family.
