Dad always said he was nearly born in a ditch in Buttonwillow when Grandpa ran off the road in the race to get to his father-in-law's house in Kern City (old Bakersfield) before the baby came. Dad was the 6th of 10 children of Isaac Franklin and Eulalia Blalock. Raised in Reward, Taft and Bakersfield he was active in High School football, Adagio dancing, and drama production (stagehand). Met his wife Patsy Miller on a blind date when he escorted her to a party as a favor for a football team mate. They married Nov 1, 1936 in Las Vegas, NV. Most of his life was spent in Construction, as Dry Wall installer and Building Contractor. He was a veteran of the Angel's Camp Jumping Frog Jubilee which he attended with his grand daughters (Connie, Cindy and Karin) from the 1960s to the 1990s. Eclectic in his interests, dad painted primitive folk art and landscapes, played a Dobro (acoustic guitar), fished for salmon, abalone and clams, hunted deer, javelina, doves and pheasant. When mom died he married Harriet Rogoff in 1983. Survived by his childen Patricia Shriver, Peggy Carpenter and Robert L. Blalock, his brother Robert F. Blalock, 6 grand children Karin Shriver, Connie, Kenneth and David Carpenter, Elisabet and Christine Blalock several great grand children, nieces and nephews, also wife Harriet and 2nd family step daughters Julia, Susan and Jeannette, their children and grand children. Predeceased by his wife of 46 years Patricia Agnes Blalock, his parents, 6 brothers and 2 sisters, and his grand daughter Cindy Lopez. No service per Harriet's wishes. We've all been back to the beach where his ashes were released to the wind and sea.
