Charles Alvin Baker was born March 14, 1892 to Francis and Hattie Baker in Verona, Ill. He passed away at the Veteran's Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, March 8, 1963 at the age of 70 year, 11 months, 22 days.

Charlie moved with his family to a farm west of McCool in 1903 and lived there until he entered the military service in World War I. He later served with the Army of Occupation in Germany.

He was united in marriage with Gladys Eldora Jones of Fairmont, August 21, 1921. To this union was born a daughter, Virginia. He worked as a carpenter in Fairmont for many years.

He is survived by his wife and daughter, two brothers, Elmer of Eugene, Ore., and Ellis of North Platte, Neb.; three sisters, Mrs. Mable Moyer of Eugene, Ore., Mrs. Elsie Walters of Hollister, Cal., and Mrs. Vera Horton of San Diego, Cal.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, two sisters and two brothers. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 7102 of Geneva and Hesperian Lodge No. 42 I.O.O.F. of Fairmont. His passing is regretted by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held at the Kritner-Farmer Funeral Home in Fairmont at 2 p.m. Monday, March 11, with Rev. Robert F. Barger officiating. Jaynce Gangstad sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden." Mrs. Rex Plock was accompanist. Pallbearers were Edmond Ackerman, Clyde Jacobsen, Alfred Jorgensen, Ralph Kahler, Ralph Lefler and Rex Plock. Interment was in the Farimont cemetery. The Fairmont Odd Fellow lodge had charge of the graveside services.
